Accredited, one of the most reliable performers in Joe Pride’s yard, will be given another chance to secure a long-overdue Stakes win when he steps out at Rosehill this weekend.
The six-year-old gelding is confirmed to run in the $250,000 Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.
Racing in the Proven Thoroughbreds colours, Accredited brings two consecutive seconds into the race, including a determined effort behind stablemate Coal Crusher in the $1 million The Hunter. Pride believes another honest showing is on the cards.
“Coal Crusher is a hard horse to beat at Newcastle and he did a really good job, he never gave up,” Pride said.
“He will be thereabouts and the 1500 metres will suit him.
“He will start in the market as he always does. He is an honest, consistent horse and he is never far away.”
A son of All Too Hard, Accredited has amassed seven victories and eight minor placings from 21 outings, pushing his earnings beyond $700,000.
His run in The Hunter came after another close second in the $300,000 Choisir Handicap at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day, where Estadio Mestalla nabbed him late.
He ended his previous campaign with a narrow defeat in the Listed Winter Challenge, run over the same Rosehill 1500m course as Saturday’s Festival Stakes.
Earlier that preparation, he finished third in the Listed Winter Stakes and now lines up again looking to secure his maiden Stakes triumph.
Pride will saddle only Accredited in this year’s Festival Stakes, a race that received 31 entries including Robusto, The Kosciuszko hero Clear Thinking, Group 2 Shannon Stakes winner Waterford, emerging sprinter Yorkshire and Queensland Oaks winner You Wahng.
