Adam Durrant hoping for an Ascot tornado

Adam Durrant says if Lady Tornado repeats her last-start performance, she will be hard to beat in the Crown Perth Handicap (1200m) at Ascot on Wednesday.

The three-year-old filly ran third to Michelada when resuming off her maiden campaign and Durrant said the way she finished off the race was encouraging.

“I rate Lady Tornado and think she is a nice filly,” Durrant said on Tabradio.

“She is very hot and gets quite worked up, even at home.

“We haven’t quite got her to chill out where we want her.

“But I think she has good ability and will progress to a Saturday horse in time.

“She’s a lovely type with a good action and everything.

“Last start we rode her quiet to see if she runs through the line and I thought she was super first up.

“Provided she reproduces that run, and I can’t see why she can’t on her work.

“If it’s a run on day she will frighten them late.”

Lady Tornado has one win and two placings from four starts after her debut at Northam last November.

She has drawn barrier four with in form hoop Clint Johnston-Porter reclaiming the ride.

The daughter of Toronado got out to $3.90 after opening at $2.80, but has returned to $3 favouritism in Tabtouch betting.

Later in race eight, Durrant says Phenomenal Anomaly and Egg White will find the Schweppes Handicap over 1600m too short at there first runs this campaign.

Meanwhile, Durrant says Sunday’s Albany Cup winner, Tena Koutou will target a couple of staying races in July after a little freshen up.

“If he does well he could roll into the Kalgoorlie Cup sort of programming,” Durrant said.

“Then dodge the summer carnival, he’s probably not quite up to them at this stage.

“Then look at the Detonator, Bunbury and Pinjarra Cups if he improves.

“If not he will lug a bit more weight, but can have another go at the Geraldton and Albany Cups.”

Durrant said he will nominate Tena Koutou and Soviet Spy for Sunday’s Jericho Cup (3100m) qualifier, but most likely they won’t run.

Soviet Spy is set to run in the Mingenew Cup (2100m) at Geraldton on Thursday.
