Just Too Fly emerged victorious in the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot, finally landing a feature win to close out the two-year-old season.
The son of Justify, trained by Luke Fernie and owned by Kim Doak, had gone close in both the Perth Stakes (1100m) and Karrakatta Plate (1200m), but found redemption on Saturday.
With Brad Parnham in the saddle, Just Too Fly proved too strong for his rivals, settling just behind the leader and outlasting a late challenge to win by a half-head.
“This is one that Luke just liked straight away,” said Doak.
“He really wanted to have a go at this particular horse and to be fair, I thought we were no chance.”
Fernie and Doak have formed a solid alliance since Fernie opened his Ascot base in 2020, with Just Too Fly now joining their list of black-type winners.
The $210,000 yearling has now earned $246,840 in stakes and shapes as a top Guineas contender next prep.
“We just know we have a good horse in our pocket,” said Doak.
Parnham, who also partnered Talkanco to win the Karrakatta Plate, notched his third WA Sires title with Saturday’s win.
