Andrew Ramsden Stakes an option for impressive Let’sbefrankbaby

After registering the first win of her campaign, Let’Sbefrankbaby could be seen again in a weeks’ time chasing an automatic entry into the Melbourne Cup.

The Robbie Griffiths and Mathew De Kock trained mare took out the JRA Cup (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday and could be seen again in the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m) at Flemington next Saturday.

The winner of the Andrew Ramsden Stakes gains a ballot exemption to start in the Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington in November.

Sent out the $3.70 favourite under Ethan Brown, Let’sbefrankbaby scored by a long neck from Ferago ($10) with Taramansour ($4.80) a further 4-¼ lengths away third.

De Kock said the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) on June 1 would also be looked at for the daughter of Frankel.

“She’s got a very stout pedigree. They don’t make races far enough for her,” de Kock said.

“It’s taken a few runs to get her into the winner’s stall, but she’s looked good in her last few runs and today looked the right race for her.

“The 2800 metres will likely suit her as will a different race complexion, ridden a bit quieter.

“She was in front a long way from home, and she had to be very tough today, but I think the Andrew Ramsden or the Sandown Cup, or both, could suit.

“We want to have a crack and see what she is like at that sort of trip, so we’ll throw her in the deep end and have a go.”

De Kock said there would be no problem with Let’sbefrankbaby backing up into the Andrew Ramsden next week.

He said as a three-year-old, Let’sbefrankbaby finished fifth in the Wakeful Stakes before backing up into the VRC Oaks five days later.

Let’sbefrankbaby showed her staying prowess as an autumn three-year-old winning the South Australian Fillies Classic (2500m) at Morphettville last May before starting her current campaign in March.

“She had the winter off and we brought her back in for a spring campaign, but unfortunately, she had a little niggled, so we rested her again,” de Kock said.

“It seems like a blessing in disguise as she’s really filled out and furnished.”
