A glowing endorsement from Kerrin McEvoy has prompted the Arctic Glamour team to take a leap of faith and confirm the mare for Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.
Trainer Sterling Alexiou was originally hesitant following her below-par finish in the Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m), but McEvoy’s review of the run altered the outlook.
“I basically gave Kerrin the option to opt out, but he told us we’d be mad not to run her,” Alexiou said.
“He felt her performance had merit and committed to sticking with her.”
Arctic Glamour was returning from a break in the Dane Ripper and Alexiou expects her to improve significantly second-up.
The four-year-old’s last win came in a Listed race where she beat Joliestar, and she’s since managed to place in three Group 2 races including the Golden Pendant, which was run over the Tatts Tiara trip.
“She hasn’t won in a while but she’s got a serious engine and if she gets the right race shape, she’s capable,” Alexiou said.
The stable will also saddle up General Salute in the W.J Healy Stakes (1200m), another classy type who impressed in a recent trial after a brief setback during the autumn.
“He had a minor issue on race day during the carnival which forced us to back off, but we’ve picked this out as a suitable return,” Alexiou explained.
“His trial suggested he’s come back in good order and I think he’ll run a big race fresh.”
