Mark Latham, former leader of the Labor Party, has been issued a 12-month good behaviour bond by the Australian Turf Club (ATC) following comments he made toward a senior club official during a recent race meeting at Rosehill.
The ATC Board responded to the incident by commissioning an independent investigation. Upon conclusion, the club issued Latham with a suspended sanction requiring him to follow strict conditions in order to retain his membership privileges.
These terms include compliance with the ATC Board Members’ Code Of Conduct in all interactions with staff, board members, and fellow members. Latham is also prohibited from making public or online remarks that could be perceived as undermining ATC staff operations.
To channel concerns or feedback, the ATC has offered Latham direct access to a customer service resource dedicated to receiving constructive input from members.
Latham has agreed to the outlined terms. Should he breach any part of the agreement, the ATC reserves the right to implement a full 12-month suspension immediately.
The situation arises amid Latham’s strong opposition to the proposed sale of Rosehill racecourse, which has been a hot topic among ATC members. A final vote on the proposal is set to take place on May 27.
The vote has already been postponed twice as the ATC works to deliver more comprehensive information and plans surrounding the proposed transaction.
