Brilliant mare ready to Glow in the G1 Epsom Handicap

Star mare Autumn Glow has established herself as the horse to beat in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), to the point where trainer Chris Waller admits she is likely scaring off her own stablemates.

Usually a dominant presence in Randwick mile features, Waller confirmed he will field a smaller-than-usual team in the $1 million race, with Autumn Glow the stable’s clear top seed.

“We will work that out on Monday but we will be less than normal,” Waller said. “I think the top seed is going to be hard to beat.”

Autumn Glow tuned up with a solo gallop between races at Rosehill on Saturday, Kerrin McEvoy guiding her over 1000m in 1:06.92, her final 600m in 36.94. The unbeaten mare will bid for a seventh straight win following carnival victories in the Toy Show Quality (1100m) and Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

“Since her good last start win she has ticked over nicely at home and we thought we’d bring her (to Rosehill) to give her a race day experience, settle the nerves and make sure we were on track for next Saturday,” Waller said.

While his Epsom numbers may be light, Waller will hold a strong hand in the Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m), with Birdman and Soul Of Spain leading his assault after recent wins. Etna Rosso, More Felons and Travolta are also set to feature.

Meanwhile, Enviable and Karinska will represent the stable in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) for fillies.
