‘Racing Bubble’ popped for the Ballarat Cup meeting

By RS NewsWire on 16/11/2021 at 5:29 pm
Filled in: News - Ballarat Cup

Racehorse owners and spectators are set to have greater race day interaction with their trainers and jockeys following the removal of the ‘racing bubble’.

The mounting yard precinct and horse stall areas have been off-limits for owners since the last lockdown commenced in August.

But with the racing participants vaccination rate of 98%, come the Ballarat Cup meeting on Saturday owners will be able to get closer to their horses.

Like the participants, only owners that are fully vaccinated will be allowed on-course.

While access to the mounting will be available from Saturday, not all courses will be able to accommodate owners owing to the size of available viewing areas.

Where entry to the mounting yard is prohibited for owners, clubs will allow the designated winning owner, or owners, entry to participate in the presentation of trophies following a feature race.

Racing Victoria also said masks are to be worn indoors and where social distancing is not possible.

Giles Thompson, RV Chief Executive, said the removal of the ‘racing bubble’ was an exciting step towards the return of a normal race day experience.

“One that allows owners and spectators a closer look at the horses in the stalls, pre-parade rings and mounting yard,” Thompson said.

“Whilst the different infrastructure at some tracks means that mounting yard access may not be initially available to ensure social distancing is maintained, owners will once again be able to engage with their trainer on race day which is an important part of their experience.”
