Bustler return in Belmont Sprint excites Parnham

Classy galloper Bustler is set to resume in the Belmont Sprint (1400m) after a sharp trial performance at Ascot signalled his readiness for a winter campaign.

The 2023 Railway Stakes winner surged home late to beat Ain’t No Other Man, leaving trainer Neville Parnham buoyed by the gelding’s condition heading into his return.

“We’ve never had him as well as we currently have got him,” Parnham said on TABradio. “He trialled super yesterday. He doesn’t usually trial that good and he was pretty sharp.”

Bustler’s most notable performance last prep was a narrow second in the Lee Steere Stakes (1400m), and Parnham is confident better results await this time around.

“Things didn’t fall his way [last prep], but he did run a very good race in the Lee Steere,” Parnham added. “He’s been real sharp in his work.”

Stablemate September Born also caught the eye in the same trial, returning from injury to finish a close third.

“We walked away disappointed [after the WA Guineas], but he’s had a nice break now and come back well,” said Parnham.

The son of Playing God is being aimed at the Belmont Guineas (1600m), via the 1400m Raconteur Stakes.
