Seven horses earmarked for spring campaigns will take part in a trial at Caulfield Heath before racing begins at Caulfield.

Trainers seeking a turf trial for some of Victoria’s potential spring stars have received assistance from the Melbourne Racing Club.

An arranged trial will be held at Caulfield Heath on Saturday, 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the first race at Caulfield.

The field of seven for the 1000-metre trial consists of Aethera, De Bergerac, Giga Kick, Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, Treasurethe Moment, and Yellow Jersey.

The MRC, in conjunction with Racing Victoria, the Australian Trainers’ Association, and the Victorian Jockeys’ Association, worked collaboratively to organise this trial.

This trial is a significant step for Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, and Treasurethe Moment, who are being readied for their initial starts in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29.

Unfavourable wet weather across Victoria in the past week has disrupted preparations for horses targeting the upcoming Melbourne Spring Carnival. Jump-outs at Mornington on Wednesday were cancelled, and turf jump-outs at Cranbourne last Monday were also called off and shifted to the synthetic track.

The MRC will also be conducting jump-outs at Caulfield Heath next Wednesday, typically catering to Mornington-trained horses.

However, the MRC and RV have agreed to permit up to 40 horses not from Mornington to gallop on the outer section of the Caulfield Heath track.

Nominations for these jump-outs are due by Monday, and early indications point towards a strong representation of potential spring contenders in the fields.
