Chairman’s Stakes debut unlikely for Crowning Moment

Trainer Clayton Douglas is favouring holding off giving Crowning Moment his debut start at Caulfield in preference of another jump-out at Balnarring.

Crowning Moment is entered for the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) on Saturday, but Douglas is leaning towards giving the gelding another jump-out on Wednesday.

The son of Pariah was scratched from the colts and geldings division of the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26 and Douglas said Crowning Moment had been showing potential.

The two-year-old had three jump-out during the spring before being put away and had a jump-out at Mornington over 600m on January 19.

“He’s a horse that has shown us nice ability at home,” Douglas told SENTrack.

“We’ve thrown a nom in there for Saturday, but he’s also in the trials at Balnarring on Wednesday.

“We’ve just got to make a decision on what we do. He’s a horse we feel will be better with a bit of time.

“He’s sort of a big burly sort that takes some work, so it’s more so getting a bit of fitness under the belt.

“I’m probably leaning towards giving him another jump-out.”

In total, 20 two-year-old have been entered for the Chairman’s Stakes which was won last year by Enthaar who faced up to only four rivals.

Other winners of the Chairman’s have included Mildred (2020), Loving Gaby (2019), Formality (2017), Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice (2016) and 2010 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily.

Crowning Moment is part-owned by Douglas’ father Vic, Victoria Samba and Jamie Kah’s manager Lachie Weekley.

Compounding the decision is Kah is heading to Sydney on Saturday to partner El Padrino, for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, in $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday.
