Lady Shenandoah will stay in Sydney for her spring kick-off, with trainer Chris Waller confirming she’ll resume in the $1 million Group 3 Concorde Stakes rather than head to Melbourne for the Group 1 Moir Stakes.
The mare has not raced over 1000m since debuting at Warwick Farm on heavy ground, and Waller said the decision came down to keeping things simple. “First time 1000 metres (in Stakes grade), I’d rather do it in Sydney than first time 1000 first time left-handed. We’ll just do one question mark instead of two question marks.”
A strong showing could propel her to the Group 1 Manikato Stakes later in the month, with paths to The Everest or the $10 million Golden Eagle also under discussion. “We’re really testing the boundaries, but we just saw the milers as very strong and want to give her the chance to sprint,” Waller said. “Saturday will tell us a lot.”
Meanwhile, Angel Capital is another of Waller’s to step out this weekend with dual nominations. He could contest Randwick’s Group 2 Tramway Stakes or line up in Moonee Valley’s Listed Chautauqua Stakes. “If he ran in the Sir Rupert Clarke, probably next Saturday over 1200 is better lead-up at Moonee Valley, but I just want to see the noms for both places,” Waller said.
