Connections reject massive offer for Trix Of The Trade

In a boost for local Western Australian racing, owner Bill Robinson confirmed Trix Of The Trade would remain under the care of trainer Colin Webster.

The Trade Fair gelding has won five of six starts with his only defeat a runner-up placing to He’s A Sizzler in the final run of his maiden campaign last September.

Trix Of The Trade won the Listed Breeders Classic (1400m) at his previous start at Pinjarra and will continue his path to the WA Derby (2400m) in April when he lines up in Saturday’s Listed Challenge Stakes (1500m).

As enticing as the money is, Robinson says he just wants to enjoy the ride of having a potential top line galloper.

“I’ve been told that this horse is one in a lifetime,” Robinson said.

“Three weeks ago, the question was asked would you be interested in selling Trix Of The Trade.

“I said everything has got a price, every commodity.

“They came up with an offer of $300,000 and I said you have to be joking.

“Last week I had another call from a different source and they came back with $375,000, subject to conditions.

“I didn’t think it was a lot of money and told them I wasn’t interested.

“They came back with a million dollars and I thought about it overnight.

“I spoke to Colin Webster; I spoke to Troy Turner and a couple of other people and I decided in my stage of life I don’t really need the million dollars.

“If something came up that blew my mind, yes, maybe and it is a risk factor, but we bred him and it would be nice to have a horse that is one in a million and enjoy it.

“Any horse that’s had six starts and won five and run second in the other one and gives the horse that beat him a bloody good hiding the next start is a pretty good horse.

“I’m enjoying having the horse.”

A former apprentice jockey, 90-year-old Robinson has interests in around 50 horses, including Billy Ain’t Silly, a winner of six races and stakes placed in the Raconteur Stakes (1400m).

The I’m All The Talk four-year-old is recovering from a tendon injury.
