Amelia’s Jewel has officially been retired from racing and will now embark on a new career in the United States after Coolmore secured her for $3.8 million at the Chairman’s Sale in Sydney.
Tom Magnier confirmed that the Group 1-winning mare will be transported to Coolmore’s Kentucky base where she will be served by their marquee stallion Justify, with the coverage to Southern Hemisphere time.
“We’re going to send her to America to go to Justify, that’ll be the plan with her,” Magnier said.
“She’s a very good mover, she’s just a quality mare. She’s a household name, she’s the kind mare you dream about having, and we’re just very fortunate to get her.”
Amelia’s Jewel retires as one of Australia’s most popular mares, winning the Northerly Stakes (1800m) and placing in other elite races including the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) and The Quokka (1200m).
Her last start win came in the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) in March, adding a final black type to her resume before heading to the sales ring.
Placed as the final lot of the Chairman’s Sale, she was the second highest-priced horse sold, trailing only Bella Nipotina at $4.2 million. Her price eclipsed the previous record for the sale, previously held by Nimalee at $3.6 million.
Also active on the night, Coolmore spent big to acquire Tiz Invincible and Estriella for $2.8 million each, both by I Am Invincible and both slated to visit Wootton Bassett, who will stand this season for $350,000 + GST — the highest service fee in Australia.
With such major investments made, Coolmore’s confidence in the breeding value of Australia’s elite mares is clear. Racing fans and punters can follow their progeny through top betting apps available across the country.
