Cox Plate winner Via Sistina is set to headline a high-profile barrier trial session at Warwick Farm as she builds towards her return to racing.
The six-time Group 1 winner will contest a 1000m Group Trial on the course proper this Thursday, where she’ll be joined by stablemates Fangirl and Atishu, as well as Joe Pride’s dual Group 1 winner Ceolwulf, who claimed both the Epsom Handicap and King Charles III Stakes.
Trainer Chris Waller will also field an exciting group of three-year-olds in a separate 900m heat, including Lady Shenandoah, Aeliana, and Gatsby’s, alongside his Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland.
With the exception of Aeliana, all of Waller’s runners will be having their second trial in preparation for resuming at the Apollo Stakes meeting at Randwick on February 15.
“Via Sistina, Switzerland, Fangirl—most of them will be trialing on Thursday,” Waller confirmed. “They are all coming along well.”
James Cummings will also bring out some of Godolphin’s top talent, including Golden Rose winner Broadsiding and Melbourne Cup fourth-place finisher Zardozi. Meanwhile, Golden Mile will make his first public appearance since being gelded.
The 2022 Caulfield Guineas winner was originally retired to stud last year but suffered an injury in the breeding barn, leading Godolphin to abandon his stallion career and return him to training. He last raced in May, finishing third to Antino in the Victory Stakes during the Brisbane Carnival.
Trainer Joe Pride has confirmed that Ceolwulf will launch his campaign in the Apollo Stakes (1400m), a race that is also likely to be Via Sistina’s starting point. Ceolwulf’s program will then include the Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on March 1 and the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 12. However, Pride remains flexible about the rest of his autumn campaign.
