David Harrison excited by return of Pat’s Got Sass

Pat’s Got Sass runs first-up in the Crown Perth 3YO Classic (1000m), a race that shapes as a top encounter between several up and coming three-year-olds.

Pat’s Got Sass showed exciting qualities for Harrison earlier this year when she was rated as one of the top two-year-olds of the season.

The Patronize filly got off to a perfect start at Ascot in March she won by 2 ¾ lengths on debut before a luckless third in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m).

She went into the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) as one of the leading fancies and lost no admirers after a close third to Ex Sport Man in an exciting finish.

“She’s not at her top, but it will be interesting to see how she measures up,” Harrison told The Races WA.

“Her work has been ok, but what I’ve been happy about is her past couple of gallops have been better.

“You never really know how they are going to come back, but she has showed that she has a lot of ability.

“I would be disappointed if she wasn’t good enough to finish in the first four.

“Hopefully she can be competitive.”

Pat’s Got Sass has drawn barrier eight in the 13 horse line up. In-form rider Joe Azzopardi gets his first sit on her.

At $6.50 she’s on the third line in Tabtouch markets. Arcadia Grace is the $2.90 favourite with Spin The Knife next at $4.20.

Harrison’s second entrant, Pixie Chix, is a $34 outsider. The Rommel filly will start from barrier two for Kyra Yuill.

She has one win from six starts and ran second to Liwa in the Listed Supremacy Stakes (1000m) in March.

Despite being the understudy to Pat’s Got Sass on Saturday, Harrison is bullish about her running a forward race.

“Her work has been just as good as Pat’s Got Sass,” Harrison said.

“She doesn’t have the same ability, but she is a real bulldog.

“I think at her price she is over the odds.”
