The 2026 Makybe Diva Stakes Day at Flemington will undoubtedly be etched in the memory of young Ballarat trainer Tyler Donaldson-Aitken, following a landmark win with his stable star, Welcometotheshow.

This determined galloper secured Donaldson-Aitken his first Black Type achievement, marking the occasion on his 50th starter, in the $175,000 Listed Tontonan Stakes, a 1400-metre contest.

With Craig Newitt steering, Welcometotheshow fought on strongly to defeat rivals trained by the internationally acclaimed Group 1 winner Henry Dwyer (Cote Atlantique), the Hayes brothers from Lindsay Park (Cafe Millenium), and the accomplished Danny O’Brien (Sass Appeal), delivering Donaldson-Aitken the most thrilling moment of his career.

“It means a lot,” he remarked.

“It means a lot to the team, as well. Horses only run well when you’ve got them happy and you’ve got the right people behind them.

Donaldson-Aitken now has the pleasant task of considering future racing plans for the five-year-old entire, but not before thoroughly appreciating the significance of Saturday’s triumph.

“I’m pretty over-tired, so I wouldn’t mind going home having a rest,” he said, fully aware this was unlikely.

“All the guys are here, the missus is here, so we’ll go to have some dinner, we’ll have a good time and we’ll treat everyone and make the most of the win.

“They’re few and far between and we’ll make a big deal of it.”
