An infection has ruled Carbine Club Stakes winner Perfect Thought out of the Sydney autumn carnival with trainer John Sargent instead turning his sights towards Queensland.

After missing the Eskimo Prince Stakes due to an elevated temperature, Perfect Thought had been slated to re-route to this weekend’s Hobartville Stakes (1400m) but was not among nominations for the race.

Sargent said the colt had been battling an infection in his neck and he had run out of time to get him fit for the three-year-old features in Sydney.

“Whether it was a spider bite, I don’t know, but he’s had to have two weeks of antibiotics,” Sargent said.

“His blood was off and bang, we had to put him on penicillin. He has finished a course of it and he’s just having a week in the paddock now.

“He will come in next week and start to aim towards a race like the Queensland Guineas.

“He is a serious horse and we had to get him right, but that has just buggered up our autumn.”

Perfect Thought was being aimed towards the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and was a $26 chance with unibet.com.au for the feature.

The Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) is at Eagle Farm on April 29.

A son of top stallion So You Think, Perfect Thought has raced six times for two wins, culminating in his Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) triumph at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival.
