Most of the leading contenders have landed favorable barrier positions for the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill this Saturday.
Tempted, who delivered a standout performance to win the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), has firmed into $5.00 as the second favorite after securing barrier one. Meanwhile, the Chris Waller-trained Wodeton, the $4.50 favorite, will jump from barrier two.
Charlie Duckworth, Waller’s assistant trainer, said they were pleased with the draw but revealed plans to adopt a more conservative approach with Wodeton after being overtaken late by Tentyris in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) last start.
“We’ll be riding him more conservatively, but you can’t complain with a good gate,” Duckworth said.
“It means we don’t have to do any extra work—just let him jump out, stay neutral, and enjoy the run.”
Skyhook, who dominated last week’s Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m), will return to the track this Saturday. Co-trainer Sterling Alexiou confirmed the Written Tycoon colt will take his place from barrier eight.
“He’s come through the race in great shape,” Alexiou said. “He’s bright, eating well, and had a good drink after the race, which helped. We’re really happy with how he’s started the week.”
“From the middle of the row, there’s plenty of speed drawn wide, but he’s got good gate speed. He’ll likely slide across and hopefully find a nice spot.”
Skyhook drifted slightly from $7.00 to $8.00 after the barrier draw but remains the third favorite in the full field of 16. The Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou stable will also field Black Opal Stakes winner King Of Pop, who has drawn the widest barrier.
The only other runner in single figures is Kris Lees’ unbeaten colt Rivellino, who has firmed into $9.00 in Golden Slipper odds after drawing barrier three. Meanwhile, Michael Freedman’s Marhoona has shortened from $26 to $15 following a favorable draw in barrier six.
