Fully Lit’s emphatic win forces Adrian Bott into rethink

Adrian Bott is reconsidering his plans for Fully Lit after the gelding roared back to winning form with a dominant performance at Rosehill. The 2024 Inglis Millennium winner had been struggling for consistency this campaign, but Saturday’s emphatic 5-1/4 length triumph in the Precise Air Handicap (1400m) has put a new spin on his spring prospects.

Bott admitted he had expected the run to mark the end of Fully Lit’s preparation after five moderate outings, but the gelding’s demolition job under Adam Hyeronimus forced him to rethink. “I came here today thinking that may just be the end of the prep,” Bott said. “But maybe he’s only just starting to come good now. We’ll see how he pulls up, but it looks like he’s finally hitting his stride again.”

Fully Lit, who jumped at $12, powered away from Anythink Goes ($14) and Puntin ($6) in what was his most complete display this season. Bott credited the removal of blinkers two starts back as a turning point, allowing the gelding to settle better after previously over-racing when caught outside the lead.

While Bott confirmed no major spring features are on the radar, he indicated the horse would now be kept in training with a view to progressing through the grades after showing a glimpse of his old brilliance.
