Golden Slipper placegetter Tempted will attempt to become just the second filly to capture the Run To The Rose when she steps out for new trainer Ciaron Maher on Saturday.
Since its inception in 2003, the race has only once gone the way of a filly, with In Secret prevailing in 2022. Tempted will have to defy history against a line-up of 11 colts and one gelding in what is shaping as one of the strongest editions yet, featuring five of the top seven finishers from this year’s Golden Slipper.
Maher is upbeat about the filly’s readiness. “She’s already got a pretty impressive record and the signs are very good from what I’ve seen. She spent most of her time out on the farm for Godolphin and she seems to be thriving down at Bong Bong,” he said.
Tempted was the only youngster to beat Marhoona as a juvenile, doing so in the Resiling Stakes (1200m). She now carries the Royal Blue colours that have dominated the Run To The Rose in recent years, with Godolphin having won five of the past six runnings.
Maher hinted at ambitious targets for the filly. “She has got a lot of options. She could go south. She could stay here. You could raise the bar. Everything is on the table for her,” he said. Tempted has even been mentioned as a potential candidate for The Everest.
Bookmakers have her on the $5 second line of betting alongside Wodeton, chasing favourite San Domenico Stakes hero Raging Force at $3.10.
