September Born, the beaten WA Guineas (1600m) favourite, has returned to trainer Neville Parnham’s yard as he prepares for a Belmont campaign.
The Playing God gelding finished eighth in the Group 2 race last November, where Storyville took victory. Post-race, stewards determined that September Born had pulled up lame.
As a result, he was unable to contest the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) two weeks later.
Trainer Neville Parnham is encouraged by September Born’s progress.
“He’s back in work,” Neville Parnham told TABradio.
“He looks great.
“He’s nice and sound and the foot he had a problem with when he pulled up lame in the Guineas seems to have blown out and come back.
“I’m looking forward to this campaign.”
Before the WA Guineas, September Born triumphed in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) and secured second place in the Belgravia Stakes (1200m).
Parnham, who previously fast-tracked 2022 Fairetha Stakes winner Bustler into top-tier competition, has taken a different approach with September Born, preferring to target the Belmont season.
“He will probably head towards a Belmont Guineas,” he said.
“There’s a couple of races in between.
“He’s still down a bit in the grades, so we can place him fairly easily in a 72 plus or a 66 plus if we have to come away from the three-year-old races.”
In addition, Parnham expects his other stable stars, Bustler and Zipaway, to return within the next week.
