Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock have Halvorsen in career best form and are hoping it will be enough to secure them their first Group 1 win.

Halvorsen heads to Adelaide on Saturday to run in the The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

The pair, who have been training together for just over 18 months, are yet to taste Group 1 success, although they came close last year when King Magnus finished on the placegetters heels in the Cantala Stakes at Flemington.

And a few months later, Halvorsen went within a length of claiming victory in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley in March.

Halvorsen has had one subsequent start, finishing fifth in the inaugural running of The Discovery (1100m) at Sale on Good Friday, being one of the few runners to make any ground in that race.

“The run at Sale was a funny run,” de Kock said.

“At the bend it looked like he was going to run closer to last than first but he flew home really well.

“The ground that day wasn’t ideal for him, he doesn’t like any spit on the track really.

“Andrew Mallyon was extremely happy with him as were we. His last furlong was fantastic.”

Mallyon is making the trip down from Brisbane to ride Halvorsen on Saturday.

He has been aboard the sprinter in five of his nine wins and has ridden Halvorsen in his past two runs at The Valley and Sale.

“His whole preparation has been really good, we’ve kept him fresh and happy at home,” de Kock said.

“The tempo of the race will be important for him as he needs a good speed so he can be a finisher as in the William Reid which was a career peak and he’s backed it up at Sale.

“We’re happy with him at home, Morphettville should suit, so let’s hope he can do it for us.”
