Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr took longer than desired to source a Heavy track for La Fracas’ return, locating it at Warrnambool.
The wet specialist will chase continuing his perfect Heavy record in Wednesday’s $200,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m).
La Fracas’ third and most current Heavy effort occurred at Sandown July 2 last year, winning by 2-3/4 lengths.
To target wet going, Price and Kent began his prep in Sydney, but Soft 6 was the heaviest in Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m), seventh place.
“I try to have him fit and well for the right races on wet surfaces,” Price said.
“We even had him in Sydney trying to catch the wet tracks but they didn’t come, strangely enough.
“But I’m happy with him, his action is great and I think he’ll run very well.”
The Wangoom’s main query is Warrnambool’s Heavy measure at 3.20pm AEST jump time.
It was Heavy 8 pre-Tuesday’s launch day, minimal precipitation Day 1, up to 15mm Wednesday forecast.
Price welcomes the son of Night Of Thunder to Heavy again but treads carefully with the 18th carnival leg.
“The difficulty with Warrnambool I’ve found over the years with my horses, albeit we’ve trained some winners there, is that you can have a wet tracker that doesn’t handle that choppy surface,” he said.
“But he’s going very well and I think he’ll be beautifully suited because it’s a tough 1200 there and he’s a tough 1200-metre horse.”
With 54.5kg, La Fracas has Beau Mertens from barrier three in the Wangoom Handicap.
Tuesday had him at $4.20 in second betting spot after local three-year-old Oliveanotherday ($2.20).
