Anthony alongside Sam Freedman boast a strong record in Victoria’s elite juvenile contest.
The renowned father-son stable won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield using Artorius during 2021, and followed with Daumier in the subsequent edition.
Currently, they target a place for High Alert in the 1200m clash on February 21, depending on a top-two result from Saturday’s Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield.
The promising colt High Alert enters his sophomore outing after running fourth in the January 24 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield.
Stuck in stall one, he was caught on the fence, hit a setback in the home straight, yet flew late to nab fourth.
Sam Freedman and jockey Luke Currie contemplated a protest but refrained, thankfully with High Alert none the worse for wear.
According to Freedman, the colt bulked up by five or six kilos that week, although he admits external factors must align for Blue Diamond inclusion.
“He’s probably going to have to run first two to get into the race I would say,” Freedman said.
“He’s going to be a proper horse in time.
“He put on weight, so it didn’t hurt him at all. He pulled up super and really, he ended up with a dash home.
“Hopefully he gets a bit of even luck, and we can see where he sits, but I don’t know if that’s the ‘A’ grade form.
“We’re always wary of the unlucky horse in a bad race, but he does work like a nice horse, so hopefully he can show it.”
Freedman drew positives from the first-up display, noting High Alert’s explosive finish that aids in adversity.
“It was still enough of a run leading to the Blue Diamond,” Freedman said.
“The horse went off next to him in the gates, but that’s why he will be a nice horse, because nothing really fazes him.”
Barrier five is High Alert’s draw in the eight-runner field this Saturday, Craig Williams riding.
