The Next Episode, a $2.8 million Snitzel colt, will take his first steps toward justifying his lofty purchase price when he contests the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill.
Out of multiple stakes-winning sprinter Humma Humma, The Next Episode briefly held the Magic Millions yearling sale record before being surpassed a day later by a Home Affairs filly out of Sunlight.
The highly regarded colt signalled his readiness by producing a sharp turn of foot to win a recent 900m trial at Rosehill.
Assistant trainer Jo Gerard-Dubord said the colt has consistently shown quality.
“He had a jump out in Victoria and they thought he was good enough to head up here,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“He trialled well at Rosehill and let down nicely. He’s still learning, but he’s got class, a great temperament and he’s competitive in everything he does.”
The stable will also be represented by Artemex, a son of Exceed And Excel, and Trapeze Artist filly Spicy Miss, both of whom also performed well in Rosehill trials.
“They’re very different horses, and you could make a case for each of them,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“Spicy Miss will get better with time, Artemex is very relaxed, but The Next Episode is naturally on-speed and competitive.”
