Hopes high for Ole Dancer in Weekend Hussler Stakes

Caulfield has generally proven a happy hunting ground for Ole Dancer, and training partners Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman are hoping the now four-year-old mare can make a return to winning form this Saturday.

It has been just under a year since the daughter of the celebrated sire Ole Kirk clinched the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield. Despite a mixed run of results since then, the stable is confident she can make an impact again in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m).

“I am really looking forward to seeing her back at that trip,” Coleman articulated.

“With a few runs under her belt, I think we can see (her best) and she loves the Caulfield track. She is definitely and is looking for that 1400-metres.”

Ole Dancer’s most recent start saw her finish seventh in the Listed How Now Stakes (1200m) on September 19. While this ended her perfect Caulfield record of two wins from two starts at the track, it’s worth noting that the 2021 Weekend Hussler Stakes winner, Kahma Lass, had a similar midfield finish in the same lead-up race.

Blake Shinn will be aboard Ole Dancer, having won the race himself in 2024. Shinn’s other notable rides at Caulfield include the leading contender Blind Raise in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), Evaporate trained by the Hayes brothers in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), and he retains the ride on the 2024 Melbourne Cup victor Knight’s Choice in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m).
