Missing out on Sydney Autumn Carnival’s top juvenile contests didn’t deter Moscatel, with trainer Adrian Bott confident her Monday demolition on debut positions her for Black Type opportunities before her two-year-old tenure ends.
The high-value Snitzel filly took control in the $65,000 Kia Ora Bloodlines To Headlines 2YO Handicap (1100m) on Kensington’s surface.
Bott shifted focus post-Carnival’s Sydney conclusion to isolated regional fixtures or Queensland raids, leveraging her status as half-sister to the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes winning Eneeza.
“There is a two-year-old fillies race at Scone that she might be well-suited to, the Listed Woodlands Sakes,” Bott said.
“That’s the reason we wanted to be here today and that should give her enough time to get through to a race like that or, if not, we could look through to Queensland.”
Set for Saturday May 16 as part of Scone’s carnival day two is the $200,000 Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m).
Moscatel’s debut under Tim Clark marked her as a Stakes force.

The favourite at $3 broke swiftly, sat handily in front, lengthened stride promptly in the straight and cruised to win from Sing Your Song ($12), second by 4-1/2 lengths and three-quarters ahead of Quarterback ($14).
“I thought I was the winner about three strides after the start, it was pretty much race over once she began like she did,” Clark said.
Produced from Group 2 winner Sweet Sherry, the filly fetched $1.6 million at the prior Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Bott, Waterhouse and John Stewart of Resolute Racing.
Bott contemplated an early tilt at the Golden Slipper for Moscatel, yet the patience in her preparation has paid dividends.
“We bought her as a nice precocious type, but she’s just needed that little bit of time and we’ve always been happy to be patient with her, there’s been absolutely no rush,” he said.
“So she’s got herself here on her own merits today and I’m sure there’s a lot of upside off the back of today.”
