Joseph Pride’s mare In Flight is heading interstate once more, targeting the Group 3 John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday after scoring impressively in her last two runs.
The rising four-year-old has been in exceptional form, picking up listed wins at Doomben and Randwick, and now steps up in class with her first tilt at Group company.
“I will have In Flight in Melbourne so I’m going to go down there,” Pride said.
Craig Williams has been booked to ride, with the jockey currently second on the Victorian Metro Jockeys Premiership standings behind Blake Shinn.
“Craig Williams will ride her,” Pride said.
“He had about twenty minutes warning and he came back to me and now knows more about her than I do.
“He is a freak. I love Craig.
“That definitely gives me confidence that he has watched her videos and been happy to jump on.”
Pride is no stranger to Caulfield, having made a recent trip there on June 28 with fellow Proven Thoroughbreds runner The Black Cloud, who was narrowly beaten.
Despite a limited presence in Victoria over the years, Pride is confident that In Flight can deliver a strong performance and add to his modest Melbourne tally.
“She has come back super. She couldn’t be better. I trialled her during the week and she is going great,” Pride said.
Bookmakers have taken notice, installing In Flight as a $2.80 favourite for the John Monash Stakes after her commanding recent form.
