Soon after weighing in on former UK galloper Old Flame at Sandown, Jamie Kah said how much she loved the Peter and Paul Snowden galloper.

Old Flame had just won the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Handicap (1400m) on Wednesday at his first Australian start after winning two of his four starts in the UK.

In a stirring battle, Old Flame ($3.40) scored a short-head win from Show Some Decorum ($12) with Uncle Byrne ($15) a long neck away third.

Kah said there was a lot to like about Old Flame saying the entire will also get a lot of benefit out of the victory on Wednesday.

“He’s a beautiful animal,” Kah said.

“He’s got a great temperament about him. He was such a gentleman out there.

“If I could pick a horse to have after racing, it would be him, but I don’t think I’ll be able to get him.”

Kah was impressed with the way Old Flame switched off during Wednesday’s race and the fight he showed, despite tiring on the line.

“There was a bit of condition on him, and I could feel him blow out on the line, so he’ll improve off that,” Kah said.

“He really only does as much as he has to, but he’s got a great attitude about him, so he might even be better when he gets over further too.

“I think the way he relaxes is his biggest asset. He was so quiet behind them.

“We got a genuine tempo from about half-way, so he’s had to pick them up from a long way out.”

Andrew Angelone, the Melbourne foreman for the Snowden stable, said the victory was the ideal way to start off Old Flame’s Australian career.

“It was a good win, a tough win as he was a little green when Jamie first let him go, but he hit the line really strong and there’s a lot of improvement to come,” Angelone said.
