Jimmysstar displayed his electrifying speed and undeniable talent, securing his first Group One victory in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Under Ethan Brown’s expert ride, the $7.50 chance surged past the $5.50 favorite She’s Bulletproof at the 200m mark, claiming a 1¼ length victory, with Rey Magnerio ($8) finishing a further ¾ of a length behind in third.
This stunning win was the pinnacle of Jimmysstar’s career so far, following a strong performance in the Listed Weekend Hussler (1400m). Trainer Ciaron Maher has long believed in the horse’s Group One caliber, no matter the distance.
“I think Ozzie (Kheir) thought I was mad when I first ran him over 1100m,” Maher joked.
“But he’s a unique horse. He’s always had that extra something, and I can’t thank Ozzie, John, and the ownership group enough. They’ve been great to work with, and Ozzie has an incredible knack for finding top horses.”
Jimmysstar’s victory adds to his growing fanbase, and Maher was thrilled to see him put it all together in the Oakleigh Plate.
“He’s always had the talent, and it’s just amazing to see him do it today,” Maher said.
For Ethan Brown, this Group One win marked a career milestone, and he was overwhelmed by Jimmysstar’s breathtaking late charge.
“I’ve never had a horse go that quickly,” Brown admitted.
“His late turn of speed was incredible. It’s a remarkable training effort to have a 1400m horse fresh up in an Oakleigh Plate and run like that.”
Brown, who has won six of his seven Group One races for Maher, expressed deep gratitude for the trainer’s support.
“I can’t express how much I appreciate Ciaron’s belief in me,” Brown said.
“He’s been a great mentor throughout my career, and I’ll always remember when he supported me after my time away from riding. This win is for him.”
