A final field of 19 has been declared for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, a straight-track sprint. Overpass has been accepted into the race following his solid third placing behind Mission Central in the King Charles III Stakes on day one of Royal Ascot.
Trainer Bjorn Baker has indicated that Overpass has come through his Tuesday run in good condition, and he has a feeling the seven-year-old gelding will benefit from the 1200-metre distance of Saturday’s contest.
Joliestar, the long-time favourite for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, has drawn barrier nine, while Overpass is set to jump from gate seven.
The straight course has typically favoured sprinters running closer to the grandstand side, but with warm weather predicted for the next two days, it is suggested the track conditions will start to even out.
The middle draws for Joliestar, with jockey James McDonald aboard, and Overpass, partnered by Josh Parr, provide their riders with the flexibility to choose the most advantageous part of the track.
Joliestar remains the favourite with English bookmakers at 9/4 ($3.25), followed by Japanese raider Satono Reve at 5/1, and the William Haggas-trained Lake Forest at 10/1. Overpass is currently listed at 20/1 for Saturday’s event.
Satono Reve, a dual Group 1 winner in his native country, also finished a very good and somewhat unlucky second to Lazzat in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes last year.
Both Joliestar and Satono Reve have demonstrated their ability against the world’s premier sprinter, Hong Kong’s Ka Ying Rising.
Joliestar finished less than two lengths behind Ka Ying Rising when placing fifth in The Everest in Sydney last spring.
Satono Reve has twice secured second place behind Ka Ying Rising in the Hong Kong Chairman’s Sprint Prizes, first in 2025 and again earlier this year.
Lake Forest is no stranger to Australian racegoers, having achieved a spectacular win in the Golden Eagle two years prior.
Haggas sent Lake Forest back to Sydney last spring for The Everest, but the horse did not perform, finishing last at Randwick and then seventh in the Champions Mile at Flemington behind Ceolwulf.
Lake Forest appears to have rediscovered his peak form after a brilliant win by more than five lengths at Haydock last month.
Cieron Fallon, who rode Lake Forest to victory in the Golden Eagle, has been booked for the ride on Saturday, while Tom Marquand is assigned to stablemate Almeraq (25/1).
