Connections of Joliestar will waste little time finding out where she sits this spring with the mare resuming in the Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
This week Joliestar was locked in to carry the Chris Waller Racing and Partners slot in the Everest (1200m), twelve months on from finishing an unlucky seventh in the world’s richest turf race. Her selection came soon after stablemate Lady Shenandoah surged into calculations with her Concorde Stakes second, but trainer Chris Waller said Joliestar had already proven she belonged on the big stage.
“She’s just gone from strength to strength,” Waller said. “What she did in the Newmarket was exceptional and to back it up in Brisbane shows the quality she possesses. She’s matured beautifully and we couldn’t be more excited to have her back for The Everest.”
Joliestar hasn’t been sighted since her Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) triumph in Brisbane during June but her fresh record speaks volumes, with three wins from five attempts including last year’s Show County Quality. Punters have installed her $2.25 favourite for the Sheraco Stakes and she sits at $13 in Everest markets.
She becomes the fifth confirmed starter in the $20 million feature, joining Hong Kong star Ka Ying Rising, TJ Smith Stakes hero Briasa, Private Harry and Jimmysstar.
Meanwhile, the Kosciuszko field is beginning to take shape after Wednesday’s slot draw. Two-time winner Front Page, Clear Thinking, Compelling Truth, Bandi’s Boy and So Magnificent have all secured places in the $2 million Randwick feature, which will be staged on the same day as The Everest, October 18.
