Jump The Broom keeps unbeaten record in tact

Jump The Broom is owned by the man who bred Black Caviar and the four-year-old maintained one similarity with the legendary sprinter with her win at Mornington on Saturday.

The daughter of Sebring kept her unbeaten record in tact with a gutsy first-up win in the $130,000 Catanach’s Jeweller’s BM78 Handicap (1200m).

Renowned breeder Rick Jamieson gave Jump The Broom to John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes to train after purchasing her for $405,000 at the 2019 Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale and Wayne Hawkes said she’ll be given plenty of chances to add to her record.

“Rick (Jamieson) is very patient, he doesn’t want you to rush them,” John Hawkes said.

“She’s not going to stud this year, so we’ll get her for another spring, another autumn and go with her.”

Jump The Broom backed up wins at Geelong, Moonee Valley and Canterbury with Saturday’s success, in which she surged powerfully late to nail Typhoon Harmony in the final couple of strides.

At the line Jump The Broom, the easy $3.10 favourite, held a long neck advantage over Typhoon Harmony ($4.60) with Evening Glory ($5.50) one length further away third.

“She’s obviously a talent and has a lot of natural ability,” winning rider Jye Mcneil said. “Once I got to the outside, the leader did kick clear, but she did chase really well. It was a great effort.”

Jamieson’s eagerness to see Jump The Broom continue on as a five-year-old means there is no rush to try and get Black Type this preparation.

“Sydney might be coming too quick,” Hawkes said.

“The end result was today was a $130,000 race and, to put it into perspective, Mount Popa won in Sydney before, the Mornington Cup winner of last year, and his race was worth $160,000 and it was a Group race.

“This was a restricted race for $130,000, so we’re winning just as much in prize money for winning a restricted race down here, so we’re happy to keep her down here.”
