Despite challengers lining up in December and again in April, the world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising confirmed his dominance by capturing Hong Kong’s Triple Crown.
Sent out a $1 favourite in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m), Ka Ying Rising justified his odds with another thrilling display, proving once again that genuine champions create their own theatre.
At just four years old, Ka Ying Rising boasts 13 wins from 15 starts, and connections have ambitions of tackling The Everest and securing another Triple Crown next season.
“Every time he comes out here he does something special,” Zac Purton said.
“He’s just getting better and better. What more can you say?”
Settled just behind the pace, Ka Ying Rising unleashed a dazzling burst of speed down the Sha Tin straight, easing up to score by 2¼ lengths, again defeating Satono Reve and Helios Express — mirroring the exact order of finish from the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) four months earlier.
David Hayes commented pre-race that Ka Ying Rising had come on four to five lengths since December, and next season could be a defining one.
“He had the perfect prep and the perfect season,” Hayes said.
“Zac said that if they were going slow he’d lead and if they were going fast he’d sit off them.
“He has shown that versatility.”
“He probably got to the front and stargazed today but he got the job done.”
“He’s only four and I think we’ve got a lot to look forward to.”
Satono Reve finished second under Joao Moreira, while Helios Express once again showed his class for trainer John Size.
“The second horse is probably the second-best sprinter in the world at the moment and Helios Express, what a great horse he’s been this year and I think he’d be a multiple group one winner if he was back in Australia.”
