Kay Cee on the way back ahead of the Northerly Stakes

By RS NewsWire on 05/10/2021 at 4:40 pm
Filled in: News - Northerly Stakes

Trainer Neville Parnham is confident Kay Cee can recapture her best form and be a serious contender in major races at the upcoming Ascot carnival

Parnham believes Kay Cee has turned the corner and is displaying the same attitude that saw her win the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in 2019.

Kay Cee earned deserved high acclaim after winning the Kingston Town Classic as a three-year-old, but her recent form has been indifferent.

She failed to come up in the winter at Belmont and ran below expectations when unplaced in the Belmont Sprint (1400m), Hyperion Stakes (1600m) and Strickland Stakes (2000m).

Kay Cee resumes in what shapes to be a competitive edition of the Northerly Stakes (1400m) in a fortnight, a forerunner to the Railway Stakes and Kingston Town Classic.

Parnham says Kay Cee’s recent fourth in a 1000m barrier trial suggests the daughter of Playing God was on target for her return in two weeks.

“She didn’t deliver in the winter months,” Neville Parnham told The Sports Daily.

“It was a bit disappointing from our eyes.

“But she appears to be going really good this time around.

“A change of attitude and a change of mannerisms around the track.

“Her work has been terrific and I thought she finished off really well in her trial.

“1000m is obviously not generally her go and I think she is back on track.

“She’ll be ready to line up Saturday week in the Northerly.”

Parnham said stablemates Platoon and Neufbosc will also feature in the Northerly Stakes.

Meanwhile Indian Pacific is also showing encouraging signs and ready to take the next step in his career, according to Parnham.

A Group 1 second in the Newmarket (1200m) at Flemington in March, Indian Pacific had a cameo winter appearance at Belmont.

The Zoustar gelding faded to third behind Samizdat after leading the Belmont Newmarket (1200m) last August.

With the Group One Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in November his major target, Parnham is confident Indian Pacific can improve on last year’s run when 9th to Elite Street.

“He’s bigger and stronger from seven months ago before he went east,” Parnham said.

“He’s really matured now and grown taller; he’s a thickset horse and has the race experience.

“He’s going as good as he’s ever gone and we are looking forward to this campaign over the summer period.”

Parnham says Indian Pacific would resume in the Crawford Stakes (1000m) on October 16 before possibly the Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) two weeks later.

He may progress to the Colonel Reeves (1100m) on November 13 or go directly to the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) on November 27.
