Knightsbridge has put himself firmly on the Magic Millions radar after an eye-catching debut victory at Randwick, giving Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott another emerging contender for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The $750,000 Farnan colt, sent out the $3.20 favourite, showed plenty of resolve to run down Thyme To Go ($3.80) and score by one length in the Kia Ora Yearlings @ MMGC Plate (1000m), with Profitable ($3.50) closing late for third.
Saturday’s performance came following two barrier trials and immediately places the colt on a Gold Coast trajectory for the $3 million feature on January 17.
“He was still short of his peak fitness today and that was by design,” Bott said.
“Knowing he would be better over further, we were comfortable letting him learn a bit on debut and build towards the Magic Millions.”
Adam Hyeronimus praised the colt’s composure after the race, noting how smoothly he settled despite drawing into a genuinely run contest.
“He’s got a beautiful attitude and he was very easy to ride,” Hyeronimus said.
“I was wary of being cluttered away but the race set up perfectly and once he balanced up, he really attacked the line.”
With Knightsbridge expected to appreciate added distance, connections believe he will be even more effective at 1200 metres and beyond.
The colt’s pedigree suggests improvement is inevitable, being closely related to Semana, who excelled between 1400m and 1600m in stakes company.
Knightsbridge is currently quoted at around $15 in early markets across leading online bookmakers for the Magic Millions Classic.
