Converge in doubt for the Doncaster Mile

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are in a race against time to have Converge fit for the Doncaster Mile after the four-year-old presented with a leg issue.

The two-time Group 1 winner was found to have swelling in his off-hind leg after completing a routine workout on Wednesday.

Bott confirmed Converge had received veterinary treatment and would continue to be monitored in the lead-up to Saturday’s $4 million feature.

While the gelding was unable to work on Thursday, Bott said Converge had not missed any serious hitouts having completed his final fast gallop earlier this week.

Converge is a $9.50 chance for the Doncaster Mile (1600m) and one of two entrants for Tulloch Lodge along with topweight Alligator Blood.

If Converge isn’t able to overcome his leg issue in time, first emergency Osipenko will be elevated into the race to give Chris Waller five runners.

The champion trainer already has Fangirl, Going Global, Zougotcha and Lindermann in the field.
