Libertini dies after suffering a heart attack

Star mare Libertini has died after suffering a heart attack at trackwork.

The Anthony Cummings trained mare was preparing for her racetrack return when she collapsed during trackwork at Randwick on Tuesday.

Baramul Stud confirmed the five-year-old’s death via Twitter on Tuesday.

“It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful mare Libertini who suffered a heart attack this morning at trackwork,” Baramul Stud posted.

“She was loved by all who spent time with her and we will miss her dearly.”

A daughter of I Am Invincible, Libertini raced on 16 occasions registering five wins collecting just shy of $2 million in prize money.

Libertini was a three-time winner at Group 2 level, winning the Tea Rose Stakes, the Silver Shadow Stakes and the Premiere Stakes while she was placed three time at Group 1 level, all in Melbourne.

Her last race start came in the Classique Legend Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill in October, finishing tenth to Eduardo .
