Lindermann reaffirmed his reputation as one of Sydney’s most genuine gallopers with a dominant all-the-way victory in Saturday’s $2 million Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill, much to the delight of jockey Nash Rawiller.
Having combined to win the Rosehill Guineas last year, the duo again proved a formidable force as the Chris Waller-trained gelding controlled proceedings before sprinting clear to score by more than two lengths over Attrition ($18), with Maison Louis ($26) third.
“His biggest asset is not just his heart but also his attitude,” Rawiller said. “He never gives up. He probably knew he was more in front than I did — he just keeps coming through for you.”
Rawiller admitted he had momentary doubts after some lacklustre runs on heavy ground but said Lindermann had clearly bounced back. “He’s smarter than me,” Rawiller laughed. “He was looking after himself on those wet tracks, and that’s why he’s come back so strong.”
Waller’s assistant Darren Beadman, who joined the stable after his time with Godolphin, said the gelding was a “pillar of the stable.” “We used to race against him, and now I get to see how good he really is,” Beadman said. “He’s big, strong, and an absolute gentleman — he’s stood the test of time.”
Lindermann’s win followed earlier success this campaign in the Chelmsford Stakes and a close second to Fangirl in the 7 Stakes. Waller will now weigh up whether to back him up in the King Charles III Stakes (1600m) next week.
