Lindsay Park shooting for a Group 1 Caulfield Cup 2025 blowout

The Lindsay Park stable is hoping history can repeat itself in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, eight years after producing one of the race’s biggest upsets. In 2017, Boom Time shocked punters when he stormed home under outsider jockey Cory Parish to win the Cup for David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

This year, under the next generation of Hayes brothers—Ben, Will, and JD—Lindsay Park will again field two longshots: Bankers Choice ($101) and Plymouth ($61). Despite their odds, Ben Hayes believes both are capable of outrunning market expectations and sneaking into the top ten.

Parish’s fairytale ride cemented his place in Caulfield Cup history, and in 2025, Celine Gaudray will have the chance to write her own chapter aboard Plymouth. The young jockey has earned the opportunity through her tireless work for the Lindsay Park operation.

Gaudray has limited Group 1 experience—both rides coming on Buffalo River, who sported the same colours as Plymouth and was trained by the late Mike Moroney, who also prepared Plymouth before his passing.

“She has been riding a lot of work for us,” Hayes said.

“She’s had a bit of success and ridden a couple of Stakes winners, so we’re giving her an opportunity in a big race like this.

“You like to reward people who work hard, and she does jump-outs and rides work down at our Pakenham facility. She can do the weight, and she deserves her chance.”

Plymouth booked his Cup berth with a second-place finish in last week’s Herbert Power Stakes (2400m), while Kah—who rode him then—takes the mount on race favourite Half Yours ($2.90) this Saturday.

“His run last week, we were really happy with,” Hayes said. “Jamie just felt that he hit the front and star gazed a bit with the blinkers on, so we’ve done a minor gear change, gone from blinkers back to the visors.”

Meanwhile, Bankers Choice has had a smooth build-up after gaining automatic entry through his Mornington Cup (2400m) win in April. Hayes said the team was able to manage his preparation with confidence.

“He had his Queensland prep, and was already in the race, so we didn’t need to screw him down and try and win his way in,” Hayes said. “He’s a horse that naturally puts himself on pace and can run better than his odds suggest.”
