Regal Vow will always have a special place in Charlotte Littlefield’s career, as the mare delivered the Pakenham-based trainer her first ‘Black Type’ victory.
Her triumph in the Listed Lord Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield Heath on Boxing Day last year was Littlefield’s biggest success until She’s Bulletproof claimed the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes at Sandown the following month.
Regal Vow has been absent from the track since her Lord Stakes win but is set to resume in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Littlefield took advantage of a track gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, giving the mare a solid workout following a single jump-out at Pakenham last Tuesday as part of her preparation.
“She’s freshened up really well since the win,” Littlefield said.
“We brought her here this morning because she’s had just one jump-out, and I wanted her to do a little more work than she would at home, where she doesn’t push herself too much.
“It was a great opportunity to get her tuned up properly before Saturday.”
Regal Vow has had three starts at Caulfield, winning once and finishing second on another occasion, in addition to her Lord Stakes victory at Caulfield Heath.
Her only unplaced effort at the track came on a rain-affected surface in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes before her Lord Stakes success.
“She enjoys racing here, and having Craig Williams aboard again is a big plus,” Littlefield said.
“He couldn’t be here today because he was jumping out She’s Bulletproof at Pakenham, so the track riders handled the work this morning, including myself.
“The track had plenty of give, and as long as it’s not too firm on race day, I think she’ll run well.
“She’s had a freshen-up between races, and she tends to be very sharp first-up.”
Littlefield also provided an update on She’s Bulletproof, who had a light jump-out at Pakenham as she prepares for the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley next Saturday.
After her Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes triumph, She’s Bulletproof finished runner-up to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.
“She just had a soft gallop this morning, more of a leg stretch, and right now, the William Reid is her likely target,” Littlefield said.
