Looks Like Elvis set for Chester Manifold Stakes

Sydney’s spate of wet weather has seen trainer Jarrod Austin head to Melbourne again chasing victory with Looks Like Elvis.

After winning the VOBIS Gold Bullion at Pakenham on December 4, Looks Like Elvis is set to run at Flemington on Saturday in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m).

To make the trip extra special for Austin, Looks Like Elvis will be his first runner at Flemington.

Austin took over the training of Looks Like Elvis from Bryan Dais at the conclusion of the galloper’s 2019 campaign and the Pakenham victory was the gelding’s first in 16 starts for his new trainer.

“We’ve been dogged by wet tracks for a while,” Austin told RSN.

“He’s been a super horse for the connections. He’s not far off $1 million dollars and he hasn’t won a ‘black type’ event, so it would be really nice to grab that ‘black type’ race for him on Saturday.

“He certainly deserves it. He’s competed right at the top level in a lot of his races since I’ve had him, and he always performs well.

“It would be really nice to see him tick that one off the bucket list.”

Austin is hoping for similar conditions for Looks Like Elvis on Saturday as to those at Pakenham where he stalked the speed and was able to show a quick turn of foot.

And Austin added the four weeks between runs was ideal.

“He won well the other day, and we’ve been able to give him a month between runs to give him the time to get over the trip and the race,” Austin said.

“I missed out on being at Pakenham, but I’ll be there on Saturday.”

How far Looks Like Elvis progresses after Saturday will depend on his performance.

Original thoughts are the gelding will be spelled.

“But if he can repeat his performance at Pakenham again on Saturday, then we’ll certainly sit down and rethink all that,” Austin said.
