The Ciaron Maher stable will head to Rosehill with confidence in Glory Daze despite his better record at Randwick, as he lines up in the McKell Cup (2000m) on Saturday.
Glory Daze has notched all three of his local wins at Randwick but produced a solid third-place effort in the Lord Mayors Cup last month at Rosehill, suggesting he can measure up again.
Johann Gerard-Dubord, assistant trainer, said the horse is in excellent condition. “He has probably got a better record at Randwick than he does at Rosehill but he has got that rating where we don’t have too many options so he probably has to run,” he explained.
“But I couldn’t be happier with him. He is going well.”
Following a freshen-up since that last start, Glory Daze is targeting his ideal distance of 2000m once again, though the team would prefer more moisture in the track. “I would have loved to see a bit more rain, but he’s at his right trip and I think it’s the right race,” said Gerard-Dubord.
The gelding’s recent form includes a win at Randwick followed by that placing at Rosehill, both on rain-affected surfaces. Even without a wet track, the stable believes he’s capable of delivering.
Saturday’s race sees 14 acceptors, with Quietness redirected to the Tattersall’s Gold Crown in Queensland.
