Miller flags interstate campaign for Strickland Stakes winner

Jason Miller is considering taking Admiration Express on an interstate campaign after her impressive win in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Pinjarra on Saturday.

The talented five-year-old mare, who started at $5, was ridden by Lucy Fiore and dominated the race in the final stages, pulling clear to win decisively. Runner-up Buckets Ridge finished strongly but never looked like catching her, while Ginger Baker stuck on for third after setting the pace.

Western Empire, the race favourite and Hyperion Stakes winner, made some ground from last to run fourth but never seriously threatened Admiration Express.

The victory was Admiration Express’ second Group 3 success, having previously won the Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m). She also boasts wins in the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) and Coolgardie Cup (1760m), and she ran a bold second in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m).

Miller’s record in the Strickland Stakes continues to grow, this being his fourth training win in the event. He’s also won the race as a jockey, piloting Dedicated Miss to victory in 2004.

“She’s a little superstar,” Miller said.

“Ever since her three-year-old career she’s always nearly raced in group and listed races.

“She’s done a really good job and an awesome result.

“Obviously the Northerly and Railway are on the radar again, but in the autumn, I had been thinking about her and Bonjoy, taking them over and having a go over there.”

Bonjoy, a son of Maschino, showed his class last prep with three straight wins including the Starstruck Classic (1600m).

Admiration Express completed a strong winter campaign following runs in the Belmont Sprint (1400m) and the Hyperion Stakes (1600m), where she finished an eye-catching third.

Lucy Fiore added a second Strickland Stakes trophy to her cabinet, having previously won aboard Material Man in 2017.
