Among the eye-catching names on Saturday’s Randwick card, Miss Kim Kar stands out – and not just for her name. The three-year-old filly has shown plenty of talent on the track and a win this weekend could see her earn a ticket to the Queensland winter carnival.
Named in a playful nod to celebrity Kim Kardashian – with her dam being Kardashing – Miss Kim Kar is trained by Bjorn Baker and owned by a syndicate of women who are enjoying every step of her journey.
“I don’t know who named her, but she is well named,” Baker said.
“It’s a female syndicate and they’re having a great time at the moment so hopefully that can continue.”
After closing her last prep with a 1550m Canterbury victory, Miss Kim Kar resumed with two solid placings before powering to a win over 1400m on a heavy track at Randwick.
This weekend she tackles the Drinkwise Mile (1600m), with conditions expected to suit and barrier six giving her options in the run.
“She is fourth-up at the mile so she looks really well suited,” Baker said.
“From the gate (barrier six) we will be able to put her where she’s comfortable.
“She is a promising filly. She’s four from eight so she is going the right way.
“She’s not overly big but she is all heart, very genuine and we love taking horses to the races like that.”
A $3.20 betting apps elect on Thursday, Baker confirmed Miss Kim Kar could head north if she impresses again.
“If she happens to go well we could possibly look at some races up in Queensland,” he said.
“She is a filly that has continued to improve with every start she has had.”
