Mr Mozart on song in Doncaster Prelude

Mr Mozart doesn’t hold a nomination for the Doncaster Mile, but connections are keen to find him another autumn carnival target after he continued his form resurgence at Newcastle.

The Hawkes Racing three-year-old added Monday’s Doncaster Prelude (1500m) to his resume, justifying his $3.50 favouritism to outmuscle Our Playboy ($4.20) by a length with Darjaan ($16) another 1-3/4 lengths away.

Mr Mozart had lost form in Melbourne but has strung together two wet track wins since transferring to the stable’s Sydney base.

While he isn’t entered for Saturday’s Doncaster Mile, co-trainer Michael Hawkes says they are keen to continue his preparation while he is racing so well.

“The part I love the most with this horse is he just fights,” Hawkes said.

“When the other horse came at him, he dug deep.

“Whether we step him out (in distance) or whether we drop him back, it depends how the horse pulls up but there are a couple of options going forward.”

Mr Mozart was ridden by former star West Australian jockey William Pike, who has been forging a successful partnership with the Hawkes team since moving to Sydney.

A race earlier, Promise Of Success ($6.50) broke through for a deserved win in the Emancipation Stakes (1500m) when she edged out Kiku in a blanket finish.

Less than a length separated the first five horses across the line, but it was the John O’Shea-trained mare who got the victory, appreciating the expansive Newcastle circuit to overpower her rivals.

O’Shea confirmed Promise Of Success would now be given another shot at a Group 1 race in Saturday’s week’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at her home track of Randwick.

“It has always been on her radar and I think it will be nice for her to go there now with her tail in the air and a nice win,” O’Shea said.
