Nathan Dunn out to show his wares in town

Trainer Nathan Dunn hopes to show his success with his small Cranbourne stable will in turn lead to him becoming better known than a successful pre-trainer.

Dunn has built his business around pre-training horses for the likes of the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr stable, but at the same time he has a small stable of his own which he is trying to improve upon.

One is Corona Lad who Dunn is keen to prepare for the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington while his eyes are also fixed on a rich restricted race for country trainers on the All-Star Mile program.

The $250,000 Country Race Series final at Flemington is the aim for Vasmee who is aiming for three straight wins when he contests the Ladbrokes Same Race Multi (1400m) at Sandown on Wednesday.

Vasmee, a veteran of only three starts, commenced his campaign with victory at Warrnambool in November before scoring at Werribee on December 30.

“I can’t be any happier with the way he has come back this preparation,” Dunn told RSN.

“He was really good at Warrnambool, and he backed it up again at Werribee.”

Dunn said Wednesday’s race at Sandown fitted his program of then looking to the Country Race Series which kicks off at Colac on February 11.

There are five heats, with the first three placegetters eligible for the final, with a Wildcard race to be held on March 11, eight days before the final.

“The plan is to go to Sandown and because I’m a country trainer with a small team and only the one Victorian stable,” Dunn said.

“I’m eligible for the Country Mile Series, so he’ll run in some of those heats and then we’ll aim towards the final over a mile at Flemington worth $250,000.”

A five-year-old son of Fastnet Rock, Vasmee is currently a $5.50 chance with TAB for Wednesday’s race.
