Caulfield-bound Getta Good Feeling won’t be fazed by her rapid distance increase, according to trainer Danny O’Brien.

The filly, fresh off a win first-up at 1200m on Flemington’s upright straight, is entered for the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.

O’Brien has marked the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) over 2000m at Morphettville on April 25 as the centrepiece of Getta Good Feeling’s autumn program.

“It’s three weeks between runs. She steps to the mile, but that shouldn’t be a problem as she has plenty of fitness,” O’Brien said.

“She’ll run three weeks after this and then there’s two weeks to the 2000-metre Group 1 over in Adelaide.

“It’s a pretty straight forward set-up for her.”

Getta Good Feeling was a standout three-year-old filly last spring, prevailing in Flemington’s Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m), securing bronze in the Caulfield Thousand Guineas (1600m), and then the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

That led to her being chalked up as odds-on in the VRC Oaks (2500m), where she loomed as the victor before fading to finish in sixth position.

Her comeback victory came in the Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington earlier this month, which left punters reeling but satisfied O’Brien’s team.

“It wasn’t unexpected,” O’Brien said.

“Her form in the spring had been very good at 1200, 1400 (metres) and a mile.

“We just thought she didn’t stay the 2500 metres of the Oaks, so that’s why we gave her that opportunity first-up in the $1 million race and she had class on most of them in the race and she delivered.

“Up to the mile on Saturday, she’s got plenty of fitness underneath the belt there from a long spring, so it shouldn’t be an issue.”
