London’s Image was meant to be heading for a well-earned break. Instead, she’s bound for Melbourne.
After finishing a brave second in the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy, trainer Ryan Hill had planned to give his tough filly a spell. But when she showed no signs of slowing down, he reconsidered.
“That was the plan—to turn her out—but she’s just thriving,” Hill said. “She flew to Melbourne on Thursday, and we’ve got a few races in mind for her.”
London’s Image has built a reputation as a front-running fighter. Her tenacity first caught attention with a bold win in the Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m), followed by near-misses in the Placid Ark Stakes and Lee Steere Classic. After adding another stakes win in the Breeders’ Classic, she was beaten only a neck in the Magic Millions.
That race came with drama. Regular jockey Brad Parnham was sidelined after a fall earlier in the day, and London’s Image—known for shifting out late—was run down by Smooth Chino.
“She was unlucky, but she lost no admirers,” Hill said. “She’s just a tough filly who keeps turning up.”
Parnham is eager to reunite with her in Melbourne.
“She’s got nominations for both Friday and Saturday, and I’d love to ride her,” he said. “Missing out on the Magic Millions was tough, so if the opportunity is there, I’d love to go over.”
London’s Image has been entered for the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday and the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.
